Need pickup rec's from experts here please!
« on: September 20, 2011, 07:34:42 AM »
I just ordered my first USA Jackson FINALLY :) I own a Egnater Renegade amp.

My JAckson RR1 is on its way right now. It has the Jb/Jazz combo. They are supposed to be very versatile, but I want some boutique pups. I heard that Bareknuckles are great. I also heard that the JB might be a little too bright.

I play at E standard 90% of the time, the other 10% Eb. I play lots of genre's. I would like a pickup combo that is very versatile that has fantastic cleans and can handle tight riffs under high gain, and has screaming pinch harmonics. What Bareknuckle combo would suit me well?

Check out the alnico Nailbomb-bridge (tight enough for your tuning, agressive, pinched harmonics no problems, cleans up well) and Cold Sweat-neck (nice deep cleans and fluid leads).
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

I would first play the guitar with the stock pickups - you may like it as it is. Find out if and what you are missing from the stock pickups and then make a dedicated move.

For the sounds you are looking for I would look at the Cold Sweat and Rebel Yell sets.

I'd say the Nailbomb/Cold Sweat combo too. The Rebel Yell is mainly used for Warm, Mahogany guitars (although there is exceptions, I'm sure plenty people on here have used them in Alder) But the Nailbomb/Cold Sweat set, you can't go wrong. If you want a little warmer, then a Holy Diver bridge will be good :)

I am an exception. I use them in a Les Paul Custom built by a local luthier. The guitar has a mahogany body but a 3 piece maple neck with ebony fretboard. It is my brightest humbucker guitar acoustically but the RYs fit it perfectly. That guitar does the John Sykes and Randy Rhoads tones pretty well.
