Schecter C-7 Hellraiser/All mahogany guitar
« on: September 27, 2011, 12:18:48 AM »
Hey guys. I bought an Alnico Nailbomb Bridge and Cold Sweat Neck at the start of the year for one of my guitars and I love them. I think its time to get rid of the EMG 707s in my schecter. I've been putting it off way to long:P

Its an all mahogany neck-thru guitar with a rosewood finger board so its very dark/heavy and warm sounding. I like the tightness of the EMG bridge but soloing on it is a nightmare. The D, G, B E strings sound very harsh and shrill, a nasel tone would describe it well. The neck 707 is nice and smooth but it still has that fizzy distortion you get from EMGs.

So I'm looking for a bridge pickup thats tight on the low strings for heavy riffing but smoothish(not harsh/shrill) for lead work eg: Scar Symmetry/Protest the Hero. The alnico nailbomb in my C-1 is perfect for this but I'd prefer a fatter/heavier tone on the low A,E,B strings. For the neck I'm looking for a smooth lead pickups something like the cold sweat if that works well with mahogany.

Thanks

Jofipe

I recon it will be too fat if you dont have a mable cab on that gtr...  I'd say ceramic.

That said, NB with mablde cab guitars are second to none.

My bad, forgot to say it had a Quilted Maple top. Here are the specs of the guitar:

I don't mind a fat sound since that can be EQd out, its the brittle sounding high strings are my main problem. I emailed Tim and he suggested a pair of Holy Divers. So hard to decide with all the choices.

The maple tops on the Schecters are just very thin veneers for aesthetics. It won't affect the sound at all.

Difficult, since I would have recommended the Nailbomb if that wasn't what you already have. The HD is nice on the top strings but not as tight for riffing on the low strings.
You might want to have a look at the heavy weight ceramics then, or even a ceramic Nailbomb.
Current BKPs: Miracle Man, Nailbomb, Juggernaut, VHII
Past BKPS: Holy Diver, Trilogy Suite, Sinner, Black Dog

Thats what I'm worried about since I like the tightness of EMG 707s on the low strings.

I like what i'm hearing about a Miracle Man set. From people's reviews it seems to address the problem of brittle/harsh high strings.

I think it has a pretty strong and bright treble cut to be honest. It has to have, because it works great in dark/middy guitars.

Ceramic Nailbomb?

Ceramic Nailbomb is looking very likely. How tight is it on the low B?

Cold Sweat neck or nailbomb neck? I'm thinking nailbomb neck since I already have a CS in my other guitar.

I wouldn't worry too much about the Diver's tightness! The Diver is tight enough for everything I can imagine and it loves Boosters (I use a Maxon OD-808) for the last piece of tightness.
Got a Diver in my Caparison Dellinger tuned down to Drop B and it's love, I like it much better than the Alnico Warpig and Painkiller I had in there before!

+1
The Diver is surprisingly versatile, with a boost, of course.
I love the spongy and articulate response of the diver when tuned down.
I never had a problem with it for riffing on the low strings...I don't know what
people are talking about.
