ok another 'difference' post... ive seen plenty of pics of washburn kc-70v's and they have three individual toggle switches for the pickups whereas the lower models ive seen (such as the kc-40v) have a simple 5-way switch... the one that chris advertised a while ago didnt have the 3 individual switches- it had the 5-way one... so just wondering is there anyway of telling the difference between the two models apart form the switches? maybe certain finishes or woods? i cant get any info off the washburn site coz the kc's are oooold.

i may be completely wrong about the switches im not sure....

anyone know anything???

Some of the high end KCs came from the US custom shop - but I have a feeling the KC70 was top of the far east range. There was a big difference in new price, from about £300-£1500! I think they went out of production around 1992, replaced by the MG series.

Make sure you try it first, some were great, others poo.

ok thanks hjm. i was gonna buy the one chris was selling on here but now cant afford it and instead my mates gonna buy it. good thing thing is chris lives in milton keynes not too far away from me so we can go and try it.

obviously ill look at the usual stuff... action, finish e.t.c e.t.c but anything trademark about the kc's i should watch out for? i mean such a wide price range for one series of guitars and the fact that im not entirely sure what model it is, means that im not really sure what to compare it to so it's gonna be difficult to judge what it's worth.

I owned a KC70V with the 3 toggle switches upto a couple of years ago.

It was a really solid guitar with a trem that wouldn't quit. Though the trem looks cr@p compared with my Ibanez Edge it just worked well and took alot of abuse (I got the guitar when I used to listen to alot of Slayer!)

The guitar was never a tone monster but it had a comfortable neck that was quite chunky. Huge difference from a Wizard type neck. Tight pocket / joint.

Drawback = Misaligned strings on the bass side of the fretboard, there was hardly any fret left under the low E and you had to pull only for vibrato. Plus the general lack of character.

I loved the 3 toggles though! Great system once you get used to it, loads of kill-switch/Ace Frehley waggles :lol:

As Hayden said watch build quality like a hawk!

Good luck get a good one - get a Miracle man plus some irish tours and that plank will serve you very well.
