yo guys, has anyone here in the uk bought a warmoth strat body at all?
if so did you get heavily taxed when it arrived any other extra cost business?

im not sure whether to expect any nasty surprises if i get one

let me know if any of you have any experience with it.

cheers.

I remember reading in one of the guitar magazines an article on building a guitar from companies like Warmoth.  The guy said that there were customs charges, but thats to be expected really.

What annoys me is that customs charge for 2nd hand items.

I import a fair amount of stuff from the US and yes, you do get stung for duty now and again, and usually VAT at least. I find DHL or  FedEx less likely to be  charged duty than the US Postal Service which arrives via Parcelpost. Don't know why that should be, but I've been caught out a couple of times.

As an alternative to the Warmoth body, have a look at the Allparts bodies, they're made in Japan, good quality and accurate, particularly if you just want a standard Strat routing, and available in the UK.
Just 'cos you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you

I'm thinking of getting another Warmoth, you get taxed, but that goes with the territory and it still worked out cheaper. I wanna try a semi hollow telecaster body and see how it works out.

semi hollow as in thinline telecaster bodies?

if so iv got a 69 reissue thinline fender tele.it sounds amazing, the hollow body gives it a really warm sound.

i got it for £579,wich is pretty good.but if you got warmoth it wud be better quality stuff no doubt

Actually although they do that too, the thing I mean is more like a network of tone chambers, so it's lighter, and apparently rounder and fatter sounding, but has none of the feedback issues you'd find with an F holed guitar. Also because it's all the same shape as a solid body tele I can just drop in all the old stuff, I was thinking of adding a third pickup, but I'll keep my tele as pure tele and get a seperate strat if I really feel I need that sound.

I was thinking of using black Limba, by next pay day I'll have more than enough, I just gotta figure out what'd look good finish wise. But Warmoth are very good to deal with, the only downside as mentioned is the tax/customs fees etc and quite a wait of they don't have it on the shelf. It took me about 6 weeks to get a hold of the stuff first time around, can you imagine how a Boss tele set and no tele to stick them in feels??

i'm starting to experience a similar feeling--- my pickup hasnt come for almost 3 weeks now!!!! just out of interest, how long did everyone elses BKP's take to arrive?? the delay for me has nothing to do with BKP themselves just the case that has to be specially ordered in.

anyway the point i was gonna make was about the finish- i think teles always look best in a natural, black or orange finish, not sure why lol. i dont think sunburst suits most teles for some strange reason.

in the warmoth gallery, the teles i like are "Aronson Michael's", "Mark McQuaid's" and "Don Gideon's". anyway, finishes are all personal preference of course.

Custom finished pickups always take longer to do, you have ordered quite a custom piece, Camo covered dog ear P90 with a coil tap and allen bolts. We are simply waiting for the cover to arrive from our supplier, then it will be ready. We are extreamly busy at the moment also becasue of the new main dealers that have come on board.

I was considering trans-white, some form of trans-brown, although that'd be wholly dependant on what shades I could get, or maaaaybe tobacco burst. I really like Gretsch's "Western Maple Stain" if there was something similar to that I'd jump on it.

As for how long my boss set took to get here, it was only a few days or so, I know it was inside of a week though.

yer i think anything with a trans finish will look sweet- teles look awesome when you let the grain of the wood show through (so do a lot of guitars but i think teles in particular)
