Author Topic: Humidifier for electric solid body guitar? (Read 3900 times)

I've seen one for acoustic but short of running a room humidifier (I've got electronic stuff/recording gear in the same room that shouldn't be humidified) is there one for my guitar in the case maybe?

Planet Waves has one but I'm not sure if it's just for bowed instruments or not. I need something, my fret ends are sharp with winter here and It's very cold and dry and humid in summer, so radical change climate. Wish I could have my own custom made non wood guitar, but until I get rich I'm just going to have to deal with wood's instability. Please help.

How about go drier, get a dehumidifier and set it to maintain a constant humidity? You should be able to get the guitars and the electronics happy I'd guess.

Man, I don't think it can get any drier up in here. It's so dry my Chap Stik needs Chap Stik. :lol:

what you said about being rich to get a non-wood guitar.. well i dunno what material you were thinking of but i've seen some strange guitar brand- "switch" which use some strange non-wood material and they're pretty cheap. i think the material was "vibracell" or something, i have no idea what it sounds like but you do get thru-neck construction which is quite cool.

I was under the impression that you don't really need a dehumidifier unless you keep you guitar in storage. Perhaps that applies to just the UK but I'm sure I read it on a US forum.

Thanks but I'm familiar with them. Never tried it though. The neck dosen't look like it'll fit my hand judging from the specs. I wish it had some neck dimension options but that's the problem with non wood necks that I've looked at. They have no options and no one seems to make a neck shape I like. I like the back shape like an assymetric Axis/EVH MusicMan, 1 5/8 nut width(exact) with 12' fretboard radius. I have this on a conversion neck that turns a fender guitar to gibson scale length (24 3/4") with no modification to the body. I'd settle for a Fender scale length with these dimensions but, not available.

I spoke once to a guy who makes custom graphite stuff and for a graphite strat neck with these dimensions it was 600 american. :!: At least that's what I remember. It might have been 1000 and I just blocked it out. :lol:

I get the problem in New York. My guitars are all OK in England, but when I bring them back here I need to keep the humidity up. I use a humidifier in the room with them. As long as you aren't pointing it into your electronic equipment you will be fine. After all you are only trying to keep the humidity to what it is in summer (or a bit less is you get summers like NY!).
