Amp nerds come and read

Yo!I know there a few ampheads that know their beans on over here soooooo....the aim is to end up with a girthy, grindy, chewy, spitty deathmachine amp built with a tone like...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbctpMaZoZ4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opxcniXR3hw&NR=1

So why not just get a Fortin bones or send a JCM800 to be modded?'cause I have a builder nearby who's the dogz bollocks which means we can have fun tweaking it to exactly where I want it.Not to mention the $3k+ price.

Just looking for a general chat about the actual parts (not circuits etc) as I'll be buying alot of the stuff and having it sent to him - why not just get him to do it? 'cause I'm a saddo that wants to be a nerd over the details and learn something on the way :D

I think we're pretty set on starting from a JCM800 style and taking it from there. So, starting at the start - the first thing I've come across is the chasis - Alu V Steel - I've been made aware of some of the pros and cons but still... discuss!Feel free to chime in with any info/advice you have of other parts too.I want the best bits I can buy from a tone point of view-not snake oil point of view.

Thanks :)

Got the chasis sourced thanks to super helpful forumite Tony, even if the project is taking a slightly different direction :D

EDCOR output transformers are some seriously nice pieces of steel and for a great price too. Highly recommend them myself and I doubt you'll find a bad word about them elsewhere. They are stiff sounding and have a wide frequency range.

Can you mod a JCM800 to take 6L6 tubes?

There are no openings for the transformers in the chassis?

Nah the guy who makes these chassis leaves the circuit board & transformer mounting holes off as people have such a variable range to choose from its impossible to get it exact.

If you know what you are going to use he will drill the chassis before shipping it though

Yea, it's an SLO100 clone that's gonna be made with stuff from C3 with the exception of trannies. Huge thanks to Tony for guiding me through everything, he's the man!
