So close, yet sooo far...
« on: January 19, 2006, 02:14:06 PM »
So, I was gonna finally get my Black Dogs wired up last night, I was gonna do the JP wiring, but after many failed attempts and dodgy schematics I have given up... as I probably won't use all that much of the options...

So my pots came yesterday and I got them all hooked up with the ground wires, I was all set too drop in the pots and hook 'em up and let rip and then, oh no!, what's this... the shafts don't fit in the holes!?!

So now I have to get the Dremel on the case and widen the holes a little, but I can't do it until monday as I'm working tonight through to monday nght.

I suppose it's good to get the practice though, I have to widen a couple of P90 holes on another guitar to put HB's in.

This is why I'm taking my geetar to a luthier to get the pups installed!  Costs more than DYI, though then again it might save me from dying in an apoplectic fit of frustration after screwing it up a half-dozen times :)

Well .... I know pretty well the things I do well, and the things I don't.  And the things I do well, I do!  The things I don't do well ... I go look for someone who can do them well :)

I'm sure I could learn to be a great guitar tech -- but, you know, other stuff has gotten in the way so far! So, it's off to the luthier for me :)

Guys, for Info;

Like many other Luthiers, if I supply the pickups I fit them for free as long as it doesn't require any mods to the guitar.

This knowledge could save you a few bob in future.

If you are using a dremel to widen the holes, use one of the cone shaped grindstones.  They work really well and the one that is curved and then goes into a cylinder (like a rocket nosecone), is exactly the right size!  If you have the multispeed, set it to one of the slower speeds and you will be fine.
So many pickups, so little time

Cool, thanks for that!, hte most annoyting thing was the push/pull pots I was gonna use for the JP wiring DID fit in the holes!?

You could still use the push/pulls and not wire in the switches.  Then if you want to change it later you will be OK.  if you open the holes, then the push pulls sound like they won't fit afterwards.

I had thought of that, but I am gonna use the push pulls in another guitar anyway, os I might as well get the normal pots in now, to save doing it later on...

And they're in!

Well, they were in last night, but they were getting a thorough testing!

I am well impressed too, I will write up a little review once I have played them a little while.
