pickups for 2010 deluxe tele
« on: October 30, 2011, 02:32:27 PM »
Hi all,

I want to change pickups in my 2010 deluxe rosewood board tele (fender noiseless pups with s1 switch) also shielded the cavities with copper tape. The neck pickup I could actually live with , but the bridge is too twangy / icepicky for my ears, nothing with too much treble either.
Still I think I will change them both.
I play mainly blues, with too many influences to specify a particular sound. Also I want something I can just replace, the less soldering the better, as I have no idea if the s1 switch will affect the wiring with non fender pickups

any suggestions welcome

Regards all

Hi and welcome
I took the whole S1-wiring out my American Series HSS-strat when I BKP'd it and it sounds way better now. With S1 everything sounded not totally open. at least to my ears. I think you can replace the pickups and continue with the S1-switch. They should work with the S1-switch, if wired the same way. Capacitors and potvalues play a role for optimizing the sound. Of course the soundresult depends on which pickups you put in there.
For blues I like the Blackguards (52-set), They're articulate, meaty for a singlecoil and smooth at the same time. The neckpickup has some strattiness to it. The Blackguard 50 has more output and is darker voiced.  If you prefer an early sixties-tone that is pure blues have a look at the Yardbirds.

Hi there,

by the look of it both good choices, will have to do a bit of thinking, but am already leaning towards the yardbirds.

Thanks for the advice

I can only speak for the BG flat 50s - they are in my Baja and I love them. I kept the S1 switch but am considering just re-wiring as either standard 3 way or 4 way. I don't use the S1 stuff much at all.
I think I hate being indecisive.

Hi all,

any thoughts on problems switching from a 3 wire pickup( n3) to a 2 wire, I get the impression that the 3rd wire(green) is a redundant earth once the new pickups are in, any need to change pots etc.
