The price is around 1172$/745£

its half the price of a new Powerball II, which i plan to get.

Should i give this "thing" a go to see if i like it even more?

If you wanted a Powerball II (or indeed any multi-channel amp), why would you give this a second look?

Yes, it's half the price, but in terms of flexibility it's considerably less than half the amp.  If you like the Soldano overdrive tone (I don't), you probably shouldn't have been looking at Engl in the first place...
BKPs: HD, MM, NB, PK, CS, Ab (b&n); Am (b only); VHII, Tril (n only); IT, Slow, Sult (m&n)

have a go on an Avenger.
If the SLO lead channel is good enough for Matt Pike, then it's good enough for me.

I would give it a go - try it out with your favorite guitar and the cab you are going to use. If possible try the Powerball II beside it. Ultimately you need to make the decision what you like the most.

I have played an Avenger once - it is basically the lead channel of the SLO and sounds like it, too. In fact it is a bit fatter than the SLO since the SLO's rhythm channel is never turned off and thus phase cancels some of the low frequencies.

I have never played the Powerball but I have had an Engl Straight (discontinued model) and still have the 2-channel preamp. Both Soldano's and Engl's amps have many mids which can sound a bit nasal with some guitars but can let other guitars sing. As I said it is completely up to you which you like best tonewise.

Cheers Stephan
