MM,C-bomb, or CS for all mahogany nt
« on: December 20, 2011, 04:25:12 PM »
Would would work better out of these 3 pickups for an all mahogany NT guitar (25" scale).  This guitar is fairly dark sounding.  Had EMGs 81/85 in it and was kind of sterile.   Playing mostly metal through Engl Savage 120/Bogner OS 212 cab.  Do not really tune down much but had this guitar tuned down to D at one time.   I want something aggressive that also cuts.

Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Agree with Eric - Cold Sweat would be my first choice for this.

Miracle Man if you want more modern thrash sound or Cold Sweat if you like old school way of metal with slightly vintage feel...MM palm mute sounds punchy, agressive with balanced mids...CS palm mute sounds more organic but mids are slightly scooped...I would recomend MM specialy for Engls...
have CWP,MM...had AM,CS,VHII,NB,PK,HD...

As I said in another post there is no huge difference in output between the Miracle Man and the Cold Sweat due to the fact that the CS is brighter. Both would work well with the Engl as these are amps with lots of midrange and both pickups have good but not prominent mids. What I noticed when I played an Engl (a Straight top back in the late 80s) that I did not like the OD sound with the gain control backed down. Hence I would be inclined to take a lower output pickup which allows the gain control to be cranked up higher but as I said it probably would not make too much difference here. Still my vote goes to the CS.

Cheers Stephan

Thanks everyone!!!  I was leaning more towards the CS since I also play mostly old school metal, but like do like to play some modern thrash!!   I also have a Cameron CCV-100 coming, so I also have to take that into consideration.

the cold sweat is the clearest ceramic pickup I've ever tried
bet it will sound great through the ccv
I have a zambelli hyperdrive 50w head that's in the same ballpark

i have same amp;savage SE and bogner os and two ibanez rgt3020 with cold sweat set and other with c-bomb set. cold sweat neck and c-bomb bridge is perfect combination for you. cs bridge is too bright and thin, nailbomb neck is not defined enough.
