need new PU
« on: December 06, 2011, 02:45:29 PM »
Hey there. I need some help finding the perfect Bare Knuckle for me.
Atm i play the Jackson rr24 with an emg 81 and it sounds awful. The body is made of alder. the guitar hast no "soul" with that active emg #####.
So i search for an other pickup
want:
tight bottom, creamy with aggressive attack, defined low end and accurate highs (highs are important, but not the fizzling ones) for death/thrash/black metal in drop c tuning!
not want (anylonger): sharp cutting crispy sterile standard tuning cr@p.
The amp is a Peavey Valveking, but 6505 soon.
so all in all i am searching for a soul for my true love; the white Jackson rr :)
which PU can you recommand?
Thanks a lot for help. Sry for my bad English;
if you have any questions or if you need more information please ask me.

I think that a Miracle Man might be right for you as it is tight and not too bright. The Miracle Man bridge has a ceramic magnet, but if you want something with Alnico magnet I think you should check out the Holy Diver.

I haven't played any of the mentioned pickups so my suggestions are based on what I've read at the BKP forums. I'm sure someone with more experience will chip along soon.
Mississippi Queens, Stormy Monday/Apaches, Emeralds, Nailbomb (bridge)

The holy diver is not a bad call for alder, though I've not used that pickup myself either.

Miracle man sounds just about right, especially as you're getting a 6505 soon, I can testify to that pickup sounding AWESOME through a 6505+/5150-II

hm.
according to the sound clips, the nailbomb, the aftermath and the holy diver are my favourites.
the aftermath because he has thas lovely cream sound, the nailbomb because i like the attack and precission.
i also like the caracter of holy diver but it sounds like it is not that "strong"...
does the nailbomb sound sterile in any way?
edit:
i am listening to sound samples for 4 hours now. i think i need some more time to think about it :P
they all sound great!!!

I dont really like the miracle man for downtuned stuff. Take a look at either the Painkiller, or the ceramic warpig.

I got a clip with the C-pig:

Hmm -  "Creamy" and "aggressive attack" are mutually exclusive to some extent. For the tuning you mentioned it will be between Holydiver and Ceramic Nailbomb, the latter being the more aggressive of the two. Miracle Man could have too much bass for the low tuning. I would also look at the Cold Sweat.
