So I am from northern Germany and have been to sweden many a time, from childhood to festival visits in the last years.
My experience is that scandinavian people in general speak english very well. Thing is that on their telly only cartoons and animation are translated, the rest is in the original language with subs. This makes even 12years old surprisingly good in english. (Germans really can suck it here 99% of the time)
So English should not be a problem, even with old folks it is usually enough to communicate.
Also they often are tought German in school (though they tend to be as good at it as Germans are at French), so sometimes even that might work for basic stuff.

Let me say in general you should not have issues. And if all else fails, there is one magic phrase that solved all my problems in the past: Öl?
Usually followed by Skål and good times.

Hails JP- I think you will find that Swedish people are superb at English. In my experience in Sweden, admittedly not for a while, it seemed that almost everyone could speak English.

Sorry for the german talk, nothing exiting though guys.

Ich wohne 30min von Kiel entfernt in Eckerförde. Um einiges kleiner als Oldenburg.^^
