Apple are selling off iPad2s in the refurbished section of their online store for 290 quid now the iPad3s come out.

might be worth a look i reckon! i ordered one last night - i want to try out all the various music apps i've been reading about on here and other places on the net. i still think 400 is too much for an ipad considering you can get a decent enough windows laptop for that sort of coin, and i still find apple evangelists who bang on about them a bit annoying ;) but i thought it was a bit of a bargain and i'm curious about amplitube, plus theres various synth/drum machine type apps too i've been hearing about.

Yeah, love mine.  Apple annoy me but since I got an Ipad 2 I've not really bothered with my laptop much.
They are great for recording too, I bought an Apogee Jam, expensive but works great.
Garage band has just had a decent upgrade too, so you can bounce now and tracks can be saved in the cloud.
Plus there are some great Synths and drum machines as you say.

Get mugician when you get it, it's free

The Moog synth looks ace as well

Mhhh I would like to try Morphwiz, the synth Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater put out.

And if it is the same AmpliTube I think about (have a demo version on my PC) it rules hard. I feel it is better than GuitarRig!
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

My 2 pence
Some no brainer apps to get from the off to make it much more usable for the average muso

Capo (software to slow down, shift pitches and loop tracks from itunes)
Icabmobile ( better than safari and allows you to download files, videos etc. and rip mp3 from you tube, you can then send them to itunes library and import to capo)
Garage band - better after the new update as Tom said
Tv catchup ( not guitar related ) just turns your ipad into a tv. Great if you need a dump and don't want to miss man utd getting battered in europe

Probably some alesis io docks knocking around 2nd hand that might be worth a punt too.
After a terrible customer service display from Alesis, issues are gone and they now work well with the new ios update; basically it's a simple recording device that gives you more input and output options than just the connector and headphones jack.

It hasn't worked for the last 6 months but ios 5.1 has fixed it.
It's very convenient to slide the ipad in to the tray with a mic set up and monitors ready to go.
I think behringer are doing something cheaper though

I like both the Korg synth apps for the iPad, much fun to be had there.

The only thing that has tempted me to buy an Ipad has been the AC-7 DAW Controller App, but that is a hefty price to pay for a touchscreen control interface. Still, it looks damn cool and if a used Ipad ever sprung up for cheap I might bite for that prog. I have tried Touch DAW with my Samsung Galaxy S, but it's too small to be anything other than entertaining.

I used my new toy quite a bit over the weekend.

I still find it a little expensive compared to a laptop, but you can't argue with some of the apps. So far I've been getting into:

ReBirth - a sort of techno studio reworked from the 90s PC programme. Loved this one in the old days, and its great now with the touch screen

RedBull BPM - great DJ software, very well thought out

Sunrizer - a nice synth. So far not generally impressed with any of the synths I tried, but this is pretty decent. I should give the Korg one a go, but its a bit pricey

Theres others as well obviously, but these are my favourites so far. Not tried any guitar ones so far - waiting for my IO Dock to arrive.
