Pickups for a walnut guitar
« on: March 31, 2012, 05:47:56 AM »
I hear walnut guitars are somewhat picky when it comes to pickups, and I've been advised to stay away from ceramic magnets, as walnut is naturally very punchy and bright. Would ceramic magnets be a bad idea in a guitar with a walnut body and maple neck? What BKP pickups would sound good in a walnut guitar (used for metal).

If I'm not mistaken, walnut is punchy, with bright highs and dark lows. I'd want to stay away from Warpigs due to the dark low end, and Holy Divers might be a little too mid heavy. A-bombs, maybe?

Whatdy'all think?

I have no experience with walnut guitars, but if you're affraid the Warpig will be too bassy then the A-bomb seems like a good choice I think.

A-Bomb is a good option. It has more fizz in the topend then the Diver, which I would not rule out. HD has a round topend, lots of centermids, but is not overly bassy. Could be the one that fits the acoustic spectrum or your guitar.
