Author Topic: A newb needs help with setting up my amp settings (Read 3288 times)

Ok so my RG1570 arrived yesterday, and I went out and bought a cable today and came back, plugged in my new guitar (tuned it first of course) and started screwing around with all the settings. However since I am completley new to this, my guitar didn't sound anywhere near what I know it is capable of. Just sounded like a semi-clean guitar that was really loud and bassy. Is there any sites that can explain all this stuff. I mean I set my bass on like 7, mids around 4, and treble around 8 or so, turned up the gain and the volume. Just sounded really noisey and unintelligable when I was strumming a few power chords.

You've probably tried this already but...
Try changing the amp channel with the included footswitch. If you're on the Rhythm channel push in the clean/crunch button. Crank the gain but adjust your volume to taste.

BTW, scooped mids sounds great in your bedroom but totally gets lost in the mix onstage. If you ever are playing with someone and wonder why you can't hear the guitar, crank those mids and it'll make a world of difference.

I'd say the same thing, roll of your bass to 5, mid to 6 and treb to 7. It'll sound crunchier that way but it really depend on what amp your are using.
My personnal settings with my 6 string on my Engl are : bass 5, mid 6, treb 7, presence 7 all that with mid boost and brightness switched on. It really cuts trough a mix.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've been messing around with it a little more and am starting to get some good distortion. Starting to get the hang of it I think. :lol:

Ok, I'm starting to get the hang of things. The sound for rhythm guitar is coming around, power chords sound good, if not a little noisy, but the higher strings all sound pretty stagnant. Just like a loud semi-noisy clear tone, while the low E sounds pretty heavy. I'm not in a situation where I can crank the volume on full blast, since I'm practicing at home, so should I think about investing in a pedal? Like say a Boss Metal Zone into a Boss EQ? I mean I was just doing a simple trill on the high E and hammering on it pretty hard and the sound fades a bit. I'm just getting started playing guitar but it is always nice to get a sound similar to what you like when you are practicing. Gives you more motivation, than trying to play say Judas Priest with a normal clear tone.

I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to the finer points of sound dynamics.
