Which BKP bridge p/up would match a Duncan Jazz neck p/up?
« on: April 19, 2012, 01:46:58 PM »
I've a Tokai 335-alike (2004 ES-120NL) which I do like and I've spent some time getting the neck pickup just so:

Seymour Duncan Jazz -> Seymour Duncan Triple Shot ->B500K (bridged to make it a 310k log pot - for southpaws) -> push/push switch routed to a capacitor and choke working like a one-shot varitone -> B500K tone control.

The bridge is a broken phat-cat well it buzzes like nobody's business and as I've since bought a tele (with a country boy in the bridge) I don't need twang in the bridge of the Tokai ...

So what BKP would match the SD in terms of output? I want something that's not to middly with a light break-up overdrive... if that makes sense and doesn't sound like a review of a wine ;^)

Since I heard that the Riff Raff neck is closest to the SD 59N the Riff Raff bridge would be the obvious choice.

Cheers Stephan

RiffRaff-neck would be good, a Mule would have a bit too much creaminess for what you want.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

Agreed that the Riff Raff bridge would be a good choice, but bear in mind that it will be quite bright in a 335 type.

The nearest BKP to the Duncan Jazz (i.e. vintage output with Alnico II magnet) is the Stormy Monday, so the SM bridge might be worth considering.  But I don't know if the Jazz set is hotter than the SM set or not; you don't want the neck pickup to overpower the bridge.

You could consider the Mule bridge, but it has been said on this forum that AIV and AII pickups don't work well together (I don't know how true that is).
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds

Jazz is A5, low output but keeps up with a ceramic bridge pretty well
HD b, VHII n, BD b, Mule n

I could've sworn the Jazz was AII.  Must've been mixing up the model number (SH-2) with the magnet.  My apologies.

That makes sense, as I remember it being quite bright now that I think about it....
