sinner vs trilogy
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:43:33 PM »
So I just got an ibanez rg2011 and I know what i want in the bridge, and have narrowed down the middle pu to trilogy and sinner.  Can anyone who has played both tell me about the differences?  Are the two pickups at all similar?

What kind of tones are you chasing?

I want a nice, sparkly clean.  I want it to be bright and cutting, but not in a nasally way like the current dimarzio middle pu.  For high gain I want the single notes to keep their power and definition when playing past the 12th fret.  I also just want it to have a fluid lead tone, and be good for shredding.  The bridge pu will be a lundgren m6, so I want the middle pu to match it volume wise, but I would think both the trilogy and the sinner would do that.  Any suggestions?

My experience of the single coils is limited but it sounds like the Trilogy Suite to me.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

They'll both work.  The Trilogy is going to favor (favour? :P) what you want for clean, and the Sinner will favour (fair play :)) the fluid lead tone.

My middle TS has a fluid lead tone under gain above the 12th fret, but not quite what a Sinner would have.  My middle TS will do a better sparkling clean than a Sinner.

Pick which is more important between the two...again, they both will work nicely.

Will the two pickups overall sound pretty similar to each other?  Will the difference really be just output?  Also, would the sinner middle possibly have warmer, fuller cleans that the trilogy?
