Stockholm P90 and Abraxas HB

Hey BKP forum,

Im looking for some decent pickups to replace the stock epiphone ones that came with my Firebird Studio so I can rock that little bit harder.

Anyone have any opinion on the Stockholm HB-sized P90 (for the neck) and either the MBK or Abraxas humbuckers (for the bridge)?

My style of music ranges from Black Keys style garage rock blues to slightly harder rock stuff like Muse/Audioslave/RATM.

Any other alternative suggestionsare welcome.

I'm confused as to why there's 2 threads saying the same haha! I would have just said if there was something you wanted to change, you could've just clicked modify. But I'm confused as the only thing different between the 2 posts is that you've deleted the space between 2 words ("suggestions are" to "suggestionsare"). What confuses me more is that the one with the space deleted was posted 2 minutes later, after a post which seemed perfectly fine.

Yeah sorry about that. I'm working on a ship offshore atm and the internet connection is a bit temperamental and for some reason it submitted it twice. As for the space difference...god knows.. Oh well there goes any opportunity of getting a proper reply lol.   :roll:

No don't worry. I actually found it very funny and kind of livened up my day haha! I'm very sure there's many people here who could help you. Just request in the other thread for a moderator to delete it and you should be fine.

I'm not too familiar with the sounds you're after, but if I'm right, Matt from Muse uses the Nailbombs, so maybe that could be a starting point to work from?

I hear the Abraxas is a great starting point for Andy Timmons style tones, so maybe that may not be aggressive enough. I personally have the Emerald combo which is the most versatile set of pickups I have ever played. It's hard to describe, but a bit of research goes a long way.

I would suggest a pair of Stockholms or a Alnico Nailbomb neck paired with a Stockholm neck or a Mississippi Queen neck. Both combos should be good for the harder more modern rock. A set of Abraxas might work as well as they're really versatile.

Good advice here. I would first look at a calibrated set of Stockholms.

I have a Firebird Studio and I asked Tim to recommend something better than the stock 490/498 set. Tim said 'That'll be the Rebel Yells'. They sound great. If I had the cash I'd like to try a lot of different BKs in this guitar just out of curiosity but I'm very happy with the RYs.

I play through a Cornford Roadhouse and get lots of compliments on my sound. Last night I went to my local jam night and played a nice Les Paul through a very old Tubescreamer into a vintage Park combo. Great set up but it sounded wimpy and lifeless compared to mine. I played my Firebird through the same set up a few weeks back and it sounded amazing. It's the BKs that make all the difference.
