New customer; Considering Cold Sweat/Aftermath
« on: June 15, 2012, 05:09:28 AM »
Hey all,

I am planning on making a purchase in the next day or two. I was considering a Cold Sweat in the neck and an Aftermath in the bridge. I would be putting them in an Ibanez SZ520QM.
I was looking for some really nice clean tones for the neck and some tightness and cut in the bridge. I play progressive metal/"djenty" stuff for the most part, and I figured this would be something I would enjoy. Thanks ahead of time.

Can anybody advise me on this? I was wondering if this would be a good choice for my playing style/taste, guitar, etc.

Based on what youre asking for either matched set would do.

fwiw I prefer the AM neck cleans to the CS. The AM neck is kinda more CS neck than the CS neck. Bell cleans and fluid high gain. More more. Because more is more. master malmsteen teaches us so.

Thank you for the response.

I think you're right, I dug around and listened to some more examples of the different BN pups and I'm now inclined to agree. I think I may be leaning towards an AM neck and PK bridge set-up.

With that in mind, I was wondering how much of a difference there is having a calibrated set vs a mix-n-match like the aforementioned AM/PK idea I have now.

Yeah, for some reason no one really talks about AM neck, but it seems like it would be one the best neck pickups by BK.  Any other info about the AM neck would be greatly appreciated.

I love my AM neck.  It reminds me of Petrucci's older lead tone from "Awake," and "Images and Words."

To me the AM neck is nice and full sounding, warm, and drier than the coldsweat.  It is also the hotter neck pickup when compared to the HD or CS neck.  I love the way sweeps sound with this pickup, too.

I have two sets currently installed in:
1) a mahogany guitar with a bolt-on maple neck, rosewood fretboard
2) Alder body w/maple top; maple neck/fretboard

I prefer the AMs in the mahogany guitar.  I will be replacing them in the brighter sounding guitar - that guitar's tone has just a tad too little low end for my tastes and needs a Warpig. :)
