Aftermath/Coldsweat in Carvin DC800?
« on: June 17, 2012, 03:01:21 AM »
Hey guys, I just got a Carvin DC800 (Alder wings, maple neck and top, ebony fretboard) and I wanted to change the pickups out to passives.  I'm after a Red Seas Fire/AAL/Periphery kind of tone and I was wondering if an aftermath bridge and coldsweat neck would work well with the woods on my guitar.  I love both pickups already, I just want to know what you guys think about how well they would work together.  Thanks guys!

Eddie

Hey Eddie,

I actually had a similar question the other day, I was thinking of doing a CS neck and AM bridge setup too.

After I got a couple responses and did more research into these pickups I decided on just doing an Aftermath
calibrated set. When they are calibrated the neck sounds sweet, so if you want that Mansoor clean tone that's
pretty much the ticket. The calibrated AM bridge will definitely give you the "djent edge" when overdriven, harmonics and clarity are great with it. The AM set is what Misha Mansoor uses in one of his main guitars, so the Periphery sound is attainable with those pups and the right additional gear.

A Cold Sweat at the neck could be great too, but you'll be closer to the more popular djenty tones (clean or overdriven) with an AM set. Of course it's all about what your personal preferences are.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response!  I had a calibrated set in an old guitar of mine but it wasn't that great so the AM set's tonal characteristics didn't shine through all that much.  What does the neck pickup sound like?  I honestly can't even remember haha.  What's this about people saying it's dry?
