7 neck advice needed for custom build-wenge
« on: June 28, 2012, 09:08:02 AM »
heya bkp'ers

decided to branch out into the 7 world . all high end 7 purchase here in oz are done online. no shops carry quality 7 guitars to try . so instead of gambling on a ibanez prestige 7 from some factory im going to an aussie builder not far from me who's work is very highly regarded.

http://www.etguitars.com/home

im going for the katana 7

he may well be on here.

what up Erine.

he's a bkp dealer and he flagged my suggestion of a Miracle Man set , which I respect in a builder . if my idea is bad tell me .

he suggested a Cpig for the bridge which I'm down with. got an A pig in my tele style and love it . get the tele down to drop c here and there and the A pig handles it in a weird bright wood guitar but can see how any lower the ceramic needs to come in

neck PU's the question mark

 specs are these

■Body - Swamp Ash with thick Wenge top (African), natural oil finish.

■Neck - Wenge 3-piece, with Flamed Maple skunk stripe, and Carbon Fibre rod (twin) reinforcement. Ebony fretboard with Abalone offset dot inlays, 25 Dunlop 6100 Stainless Steel frets.

I am going a normal scale over the extended 27" on the website. I dont go that low to G or F . std 7 or drop A is where I'm at.

i need a neck good for clean stuff to match a Cpig cause my experience with the Apig does tell me its a good idea  . cold sweat or holy diver maybe, I'm not sure . wenge mixed with swamp ash is a new thing  to me .

I have a NB set in another guitar and really like the neck clean so I'd even go there in the 7 string model if thats gonna work .

big clean sounds with delay for apreggio/rythmic chord tone melodies is my neck thing. I do like some high gain solos on the neck but it needs to sound good clean and big in the  front of mix number 1 .

ideas would be awesome

edit - Im not against a pig neck if that is gonna give me what I want. I have heard some Pig neck clips I really like clean

thanks

Why don't you have a C-Pig in the bridge but keep the Miracle Man in the neck? There's some great lead tones there and it's hot enough to live with the Warpig.

You could also take a look at the Emerald neck, which is surprisingly powerful for a vintage hot pickup, has some awesome tones for both screaming leads and cleans as well as giving you a very wide palette of tones in conjunction with the C-Pig. I've never heard of it being done before so it may be a silly idea but it struck me that it would be a really interesting combination that could work very well.
BKP owned:

Bridge - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; A-Bomb; Holydiver; Miracle Man; Sinner; Trilogy Suite

Neck - Emerald; Cold Sweat; Crawler; Holydiver; Sinner; Trilogy Suite
