Pickups for a 7 string ash guitar
« on: July 10, 2012, 07:42:54 AM »
Hey everyone!

I'm designing a guitar along with a luthier here in Brazil and definitely wanna try some BKP on that.
The guitar is going to be a 7 string with an Ash body and all Maple neck.
It's going to be a little brighter than normal but my concerns lean towards the overall balance.

So which pickups would give me tight lows and controlled - but not swapped out - round highs?
I'd like to keep this one very versatile but not compromising the overdriven sounds.
I hope I made myself clear.
Thanks for the help!

Is it a Neck through, Set neck, or Bolt on?

What tuning are you using?

What what is your signal chain/RIG?

Hey thanks for the help!

It's going to be a bolt-on neck.
I play mainly in Stardard tuning or half step down.

My signal chain changes alot according to the situation. But it's kinda like this:

1 - Guitar - Tuner TU-2 - Keeley Comp - Crybaby - Maxon OD808 - BB Comp OD - amp (changes a lot - orange, marshall and boogie rectifiers)
A couple delays and phasers in the loop.
I'm Going to get a PRS amp 2 Channel H in the near future.

2 - Guitar - Axe FX or other simulation gear - computer in the studio for quick sessions.

I do know a lot about other pickups because they are easy to find here. But for BKP it's going to be a complete shoot in the dark. So I appreciate the help!

Perhaps a Holydiver may suit your needs.
I have a Holydiver arriving soon that I'll be putting in my Koa/swamp ash neck-through 7.

The Holydiver has really sweet highs and a well-controlled low end. I have one in my Mahogany LP and it sounds so good I had to order one for my 7 string

When you get you Holy Diver on the 7 string, please share your impressions!

o nailbomb e o alnico miracle man devem casar bem com as madeiras
mas depende do que você quer tocar e com o que
prefiro ceramicos com o rectifier, alnico com marshall, por exemplo
tenho preferido os de saída média/baixa que os contemporary, que usei por anos
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat
