Need advice - PRS for various tuning/progressive metal
« on: November 10, 2012, 10:06:47 AM »
Looking at options for a mid 90's PRS CE22 with bolt on neck and solid Alder body.

Need something that will be versatile and tight with playing in B tuning, and able to track fast lead work and heavy pick attack with definition and clarity. Using relatively high gain but also cleaner channels and a few modulation effects, the guitar currently has stock pick ups which are Dragon II's I think.

Was thinking maybe the Aftermath, but would like to hear some opinions and recommendations for this.

Nailbombs work really well in PRS CE's.  If you want more definition and a little more clarity, you could either look at a ceramic magnet bridge model, or possibly the Black Hawks, though I haven't heard them in a PRS.
So many pickups, so little time

Yeah I nearly got nailbombs myself, but went with blackhawks. Which I'm happy with because the blackhawk has more than enough bottom end and I think the nailbomb may have been overkill in an LP.

The PRS on the other hand, while being quite aggressive standard, I think needs a bit more mid clarity and high end presence.

Thanks for responding!
