My old faithful Strat is reborn!
« on: July 22, 2012, 02:08:21 PM »
No pictures just yet but I thought I'd make a thread about it anyway.

A few weeks ago I took my 68 Reissue Strat to Jonathan and Co at Feline Guitars. My intention was the have the fretboard radius flattened to a 12" radius and a new nut installed.

The work was done in 2 weeks but I couldn't pick it up till yesterday. I turned up and was amazed at the quality of work.

The fretboard had been leveled to 12", new Graphite nut, 6000 size frets installed and finished in Tru Oil. I had a quick wizz on it and could instantly tell that the guitar resonated much more than before and it was so easy to play.

Whilst I was there I made a quick decision and had some Sperzel Locking Tuners installed. They were installed within an hour and the guy working on it (sorry I didn't catch his name) went so far as to glue a tiny piece of maple into the hole of where the previous tuners screwed into to match the rest of the neck and made sure the tuners were all installed level with each other.

I played it through Jonathan's awesome rig and loved it. Very happily I paid for the great work and then proceeded an annoying 3 hour drive back to Hatfield with my engine close to overheating as I found out the thermostat casing has a tiny crack in it so it's leaking coolant  :x

But anyway I plugged it into my rig (Line 6 Pod Pro and Peavey 120 Poweramp) and blasted out some Def Leppard, Megadeth and widdled away.

I'm so chuffed with the guitar. It now plays exactly how I've always wanted it to.

So thank you to Jonathan and his co worker.

Congrats, sounds like a good stagestrat with modern features. I have Sperzels on my customstrat and though they aren't vintagelooking in any way they stay in tune and that counts for me.

Just a little update. I haven't even touched my PRS' since I got the Strat back. My 2 PRS guitars are awesome instruments but the Strat just has something about it now.

I always used to find I went through phases of liking Fender-style guitars for a while, then I'd get back into Gibsons, then back to Fenders.... and so it went on.  Maybe you do the same?

In recent years I've gone more and more to the Gibson/PRS side of things, but I do sometimes feel like I really want to experience that bolt-on, single-coil vibe again.... unfortunately all I've got right now is a big load of separate necks, bodies and parts!
BKPs I've Got:  RR, BKP-91, ITs, VHII, CS set, Emeralds
BKPs I Had:  RY+Abraxas, Crawlers, BD+SM
