Aftermath bridge w/ VH II neck
« on: August 06, 2012, 09:39:08 PM »
I am looking to replace the EMGs (81 and 60) in my Ibanez MTM1 with some Bare Knuckles. I have spoken to Tim and he recommended an Aftermath in the bridge position and a VHII in the neck position. Does anyone have experience with this particular combination? I primarily use the neck position for clean tones, so that is the focus. My preferred clean tone is clear and articulate, while still having a slightly warm edge to it.

In terms of the guitar itself, here are the specs:
In-thru 5 piece neck (maple and walnut)
Mahogany wings
Rosewood fretboard
Fixed Edge III bridge
Drop A Tuning

Not a combo i have heard on here before, but Tim is the man though. Interesting to hear the experts on this forum, it seems like a versatile combo really, metal bridge and neck for cleans. :P
BKP: Abraxas - Les Paul
Holy Diver - Charvel
Mule - Les Paul
Rebel Yell - Les Paul
VHII - PRS CU22
Emerald - Les Paul
Warpig - Caparison Horus

That's the combo I was looking at before I got Blackhawks. Should be fantastic though.

Hence my reason for asking, I pretty much only ever see the VHII being paired with a Rebel Yell.

What prompted the change? Was there something in particular that you preferred about the 'Hawks?

I don't see a problem with that
I paired a mule with the aftermath
quite a mismatch, but no big deal
Riff Raff, Mules, Black Dog, VHII's, Cold Sweat

It was more a matter of curiosity than worry. I simply want to hear what people think of that combination.

Well I'd read some things that pointed to me that the Aftermath wasn't very versatile, and that's something I wouldn't be able to stand as I change settings all the time. Also, Nolly has some clips that used the BH's and he got some fantastic tones. The VHII neck still seemed like a really good option, but since barely no one else had the BH neck I figured I'd try it out. (It's not like I cared about being different, it's just that I knew it'd still be great and I could provide some info to others then too.) Not to mention it's voiced somewhat closely to the EMGX series, (the ones meant to be more organic) so it's perfect for Tosin Abasi tone, which I get in spades.
