Wiring problem
« on: August 15, 2012, 07:45:37 PM »
Hey! Ive had this problem for a while, but I really want to try solve it now. So any help would be very appreciated.

Long story short:
I contacted my local music shop about making a active to passive switch, and they said it was fine.
So I ordered a BKP aftermath bridge and a cold sweat neck, I left my guitar and the pups in the dirty hands of the music shop.
When I was going back to get the guitar the tech told me that the neck pickup didnt sound too well.
So I contacted BKP while I made a thread here to get some support:
1. The pickups are in 100% working condition according to BKP.
2. I didn't want to solder by myself so I couldnt try to fix it even with all the help from SS.org.

This is how it sounds:

The first is the bridge, and the second is the neck. As you can hear the neck got a irritating kind of sound to it, and the output is VERY low. When you pluck it soft you almost don't get any sound at all. What could the problem be? Besides the pickups the guitar has 1 volume pot, 1 tone pot and one 3 toggle switch.

Did they change the pots when they did this?  Active guitars have something like 10k pots, passive need 250k or 500k, depending on whether you have single coils or humbuckers (there are other values you can use, but these are the standard that I would have expected them to fit).
So many pickups, so little time

Yeah, both of the pots are changed to 500k.

It sounds like a grounding problem. Have you checked all the ground connections? Are the pickups single conductor or 4?
