PG Blues into '67 Plexi

1980 Tokai LS-80 Les Paul Reborn using the original pickups that were sent in to Tim to match the PG Blues Spec.  Amp is a Metroamp clone of a 100w EL34 '67 spec Marshall Superbass (mustard caps, all nos glass - Mullard XF2 power tubes) into the lower left input with both volumes around 6-7 and everything in the tone stack dimed except the bass.  The Metro is running unattenuated into a StoneAge 4x12 loaded with Weber ceramic Michigans.  Tracked in a large warehouse.

If you want a real ROCK-n-ROLL amp this is it. AC/DC...VAN HALEN...LED ZEPPELIN. All here. This amp brings that tone. And it gives you one thing that even a vintage amp can't give...it let's you bring the "vibe". Like all good tube amps the more you play it...the better it sounds!!! Crank it up and make it your own!!!

I'm happy some of you are liking it.

All in all it's a very fair representation of the pickups, guitar, and amp.  There is no eq or compression on the guitars and the only effects are during the verses where I have some tape delay and reverb added in.  Other than that it is dry with a ribbon mic up close and a condenser about 30 ft back in a warehouse.  What Tim did to the pup's perfected the guitar.

true NOS british made mullards are very hard to find
they are usually used and still sell for a fortune
you can still find NOS german RFT/Siemens (same factory that made some of the mullards as well)
those sound amazing and aren't overpriced (still a bit pricey)

I actually use RFT/Siemens EL34's in this amp most of the time.  I only use XF2's in the studio.

If you go to 3:12 in the video below you can hear a solo of mine with the Siemens EL34's.  The rest of the song is with the Mullards though.

Honestly the biggest difference in valves are the preamp tubes.  I use a Mullard I61 ECC83 in V1, a Tungsram 12AX7 in V2, & a Mullard CV4024 in V3.  Mullards and old Marshall's go hand in hand.

they are well worth the cost though, like vintage wine is ; ) good job I'm poor

Great clip, that '67 sounds awesome.

Still also got a quad of RFT EL34s (which I received with my Bogner 100B a few years ago, they are still perfect in shape those tubes), guess I'll put em in my '78 JMP and have a widdle later :)
