I don't know about changing the pole pieces, but I am also a new Piledriver owner. I feel the pickups has too much mid range and too much bass. I am going to try switching to 500k pots as recommended by BKP. Perhaps that's an option if you have a typically wired telecaster with 250k.
I already have put 500k pots on both Volume and Tone with an awesome V-cap.
The first pickup I had was Seymour duncan Hot-rails and I replaced it to Dimazio Super Distortion for Tele.
Maybe I was expecting too much, I can tell each string sounds very clear on the pile driver,
but too much low Bass and low mid, so it doesn't sound balanced to me.
Also, it doesn't have that wide-mid range distortion on it ,which Hot-rails and Super distortion have in common.
I tried them out on my diezel herbert, marshall jubilee with 4 Vintage 30s today, and Im still not sure about the sound.
The good impression I had was that it was very punchy with that low mid sound when palm muting,
but it just lacks some sweet mid spot.
Also, I read about someone who owns a pile driver wrote that this Pile driver has very good sustain,
but I doubt that idea either. The mid and hi died out earlier than the bass when a single note was played.
I must be wrong seriously. I don't want to make any judgement yet but I think adjusting the pole pieces slightly would
solve all the problems and kill all the other pickups
So far, Punchy (Bare knuckle >= Hot rails >> Super D)
Sustain (Super D >> Bare knuckle >= Hot rails)
Nice Bottom end (Super D > Bare knuckle > Hot rails)
mid range balance (super D >> Hot rails > Bare knuckle)
Hi and Presence (Hot rails > super D >= bare knuckle)
Clarity (Bare knuckle >> Hot rails > super D)
Quietness (Bare knucle > Hot rails >> suepr D)
Any thought?
