Hi all, I'm looking for advice on matching a single coil (middle position) with my bridge aftermath on my Jackson PC1. It's a mahogany body, all maple bolt on neck with a floyd. 10-46 strings In drop D. The aftermath crushes for metal tones and soloing, but I'm looking for something that can handle clean work better but still keep up with the ass kickery of the aftermath. I doubt I'd ever switch to the single coil for leads or anything, mostly clean stuff, but I'd still like it to have some bite to it and not have a huge output discrepancy.
The guitar itself is fairly neutral sounding, though it has a nice maple spank to it with the maple neck but still has girth and weight from the mahogany body... Maybe leaning towards a brighter natural sound I guess.
Right now there is a Dimarzio HS2 in there. It just feels weak and... quacky? It's supposed to be their vintage single, with the lowest output rating out of anything they make. So I probably want something from the Vintage Hot or contemporary lines. I am liking the clean clips of the Irish tours a lot, but should I be looking at something like the Trilogy suites instead for balance? I also really like the sinners clean sounds, they are thick and full and seem more humbucker-like... which I like... But do they sound good clean in person? I see the Irish tour is paired with the nailbomb for HSS sets so it should match alright with the aftermath... right?
any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
