Baseplate question.
« on: September 19, 2012, 08:55:35 AM »
Just in the process of ordering....

My only question is the baseplate.
Are they there to just help the position of the pickup, or do they help enhance the sonic qualities at all?

I'm happy to get them on all pickups, but is it necessary?

Also - custom made my own bone style pickup covers.  I assume I can take the ones that they come with off?  (Strat)

Cheers.

As much as I hate when people do this, but:

https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/faq.php

"Zinc plated steel baseplates for Strat coils add more bottom end definition, clarity and power to the coil. They work on the same principle as a Tele bridge baseplate with tapped mounting holes so height adjustment screws thread directly into the baseplate ensuring it will never fall off. The baseplates are waxpotted with the coil to provent microphonic feedback. Whilst it is most common to fit one to the bridge coil only, the zinc plated steel baseplates work well on middle and neck coils too."

Here you can find pretty much every answer that you may have :)

And yes the PU covers are removable

Cheers!

Thanks.  Yeah, I did see this.  I was just wondering if there was a more specific answer - particularly given that my mate has stated that they're not needed on the other positions.
I might email him a link to the same page too.

Thanks again for te reply.   Sorry all that I started the thread twice.  My iPad said it hadn't been submitted and asked me to do it again.
