Mothers Milk Strat Question
« on: October 23, 2012, 12:37:31 AM »
Hi everyone,

it's been quite some time since my last post. I'm currently in the market for a Rosewood slapboard vintage specs strat.
Of course I will put BKPs in it

After doing some research I'm already quite set on the Mothers Milk set.

The main purpose of this guitar will be dirty Hendrix style tones and woody, crystal clear and bell like sparkling cleans.
I definitely want to go low output on that one and I'm quite sure the MM will deliver that perfectly.

As I don't want the Strat to be a one trick pony I might occasionally also use it for Gilmour style leads and Morello style rythm work. So my question is: can the MM handle that much gain? Will it still remain tight under gain? If possible I want to avoid higher output models (I already have Cold Sweats, War Pigs and Nailbombs) and I want to keep the 60s vintage vibe of the guitar.

Sharing your MM experiences would be very much appreciated.

The MM's handle gain well. I have a HSS-strat with two MM's and a VHII in the bridge.
The singlecoils ooze Frusciante. However for Gilmour Slowhands would be good choiche, but they are way middier and hotter. I think Irish Tours (these are in my other HSS-strat) could be a good compromise: they have more bass and beef then the Mother's Milk, but if you turn the vol.knob on the guitar a tad down, you're entering MM-terrority with the sparkle en bell's you're after. They sound less woody then the MM's, but you can get close with these. As I said: best of both worlds.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
