Open aftermaths correct installation
« on: February 05, 2013, 01:43:34 PM »
hello people,
just got my first BKPs which are Aftermath 6s to put in my LP standard (hope tonewoods work with them)

I just cannot guess the right side to put them because they are open and they have screws on both coils.

The only asymetrical thing on them is the Bare knuckle engraving at the back side, and the wire of the pickup.
if I put them side by side with their wires on the inside, the BKP engraving on the back can be read from the same side on both (from the bridge side).

do you know what is the correct side to place them ?

Hi,

I would install the neck pickup in a way that the spot where the connecting wire leaves the pickup faces the toggle switch and not the control department. For the bridge pickup vice versa. That would be the standard way.

If you do it the other way around the pickups will still work. Whether they will sound differently - maybe, if the coils are wound asymmetrically. I tried both ways with the VHII which has asymmetrical coils. Yes, there was a difference but it was minor.

Cheers Stephan

so the wires on both face outwards. on the bridge towards the bridge, on the neck towards the neck
