Which pickup for my style?
« on: May 18, 2005, 10:05:14 AM »
Hi there, i recently became interested in having a 7 string warpig made for me, but i'm not sure if it's really the pickup for me.

My style ranges from Death Metal to Classic Rock, Shred, Jazz and Blues.

I mainly use my 7 string for playing death metal but i would also like the versatility of some screaming high end as well as some ball busting low end, haha. Also i would like some cool clean sounds.

I use a JCM 900 with a Washburn 587V and i found that the pickups are kinda weak.

Please help  :o

I'd stick with the Warpig. 8)

I would go with HJM and say the Nailbomb, Its got a lot of versatility so it should be able to handle the things you want it to do.

Unfortunatly we cannot offer covers or differnt bobbin colours for 7 string pickups because nobody has ever made the parts before. So its just plain black bobbins. We can make double screw designs, including ones with alan bolts.

I would like to add that i love Christopher Amotts guitar tone, bone crushing rhythm and screaming, clear lead sound with loads of deffinition. So i hope that helps?

For simulating Christopher Amott's tone The Warpig and the Nailbomb would both do good jobs, The nailbomb has got more High end definition than the Warpig and has a "bigger" sound. The warpig has a tight bass with a more focused, saturated tone.
The Nailbomb as a 7 string design would have a DC of about 18-19K and the Warpig would have about 26K

I think that the Warpig would be the best for all out Death metal as it would be able to handle the lower fequencies of the low B better than the nailbomb, But the Nailbomb would be more versitle for your jazz and blues because it would  have a better clean and lead tone.

Probably the best thing to do would be to have a warpig in the bridge and a nailbomb neck pickups in the neck. I think that this would give you the most versitility and the best of both of the pickups

excellent. Thanks Steve.

I haven't seen Arch Enemy live yet, but i have some live recordings of the band, Chris Amotts tone just seems to sound better than Michaels.
