Help with basic & optional PG Blues wiring

Hello everyone. I originally posted this in the "Pickups" category but then recognized it's probably more of a Tech question...

I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts on the most interesting wiring option for a PG Blues HB set. I'm going to put the pickups in an LP clone that's currently standard-drilled as an LP for two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a neck / bridge / combo selector switch. I'm open-minded to drilling for additional switch(es) if beneficial...

First of all, what is the BASIC wiring schematic for the PG Blues set as they are designed "... for the famous out of phase mid position with both humbuckers on together...".  Is it this schematic ? : https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/downloads/schematics/profiles/humbuckers/2_hum__braided_2_con__2_vol__2_tone__3_way_toggle__0.022mfd_0.015mfd_caps.pdf   OR ??

Secondly, once I have the "basic" wiring option down, are there any other wiring options such as coil splitting or series / parallel or ??? that you would recommend to achieve some other interesting tonal options? 

I'm not looking for "101 different tones", because often most of them aren't interesting (they're thin or they really skew the pitch high or low)... but sometimes there is something that can be achieved by adding a push-pull option here or there... that really adds a dramatic tone option or two...

With a PG Blues set, that wiring diagram will indeed give you "the famous out of phase mid position with both humbuckers on together". 

But if you've got the basic PG Blues pickups with braided cable (as shown in the diagram), I'm afraid you can't do coil-splitting or series/parallel wiring - for that you'd need pickups with four-conductor cable.

Is that the reason people encourage asking for the 4-conductor lead cable when ordering the set ?

Yes, even if you're initially planning on the most simple wiring arrangement, 4-conductor cable gives you additional options if you change your mind later.

Personally, I also find it easier to work with 4-conductor cable, I don't like soldering the braided 2-conductor cable - I can never get it as neat as I'd like.

I don't see any advantage to choosing braided cable unless you're determined to keep everything totally vintage.
