Pickup help - custom Sabre guitar
« on: March 26, 2013, 11:50:24 AM »
Hey guys I come to you with probably the most important pickup selection quest in my playing life lol I am open to all pickup suggestions so go crazy.
As some of you know I will be having a custom Sabre guitar built in the near future and want to make sure the pickups are just right-the specs will most likely be:
-Korina body
-Maple burl cap
-3 piece maple/walnut neck (bolt-on)
-Macassar ebony fretboard
-25.5 scale

I am not  a Djent player im more of a traditionalist i guess. I like stuff like Metallica, Opeth, Inflames, Morbid Angel, Death, Katatonia, etc. So bands that can get very heavy but still create good dynamics so i guess I am after something with versatility. I want something modern, with good bottom end chunk, not scooped, healthy output, with a good 'live' presence and that will of course complement the woods mentioned above. Pickups I have been considering are: Blackhawk, Nailbomb and Warpig. What would you recommend? 8)

Nailbombs would do. Maybe you should consider the Rebel Yell too.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.

There enough users of both Nailbombs and Rebel Yells here on the forum. I don't own both pickups. Hope they chime in. The NB's have more bass then RY's, which are quite bright in the topend that could be tad too much with ebony fretboard and maple neck. Therefore my first choice would be Nailbombs. Warpigs could be a bit much for these styles. I don't know the Blackhawks.
