Name that Band
« on: March 17, 2006, 10:44:06 AM »
Ok, I freely admit to being a bit of a numpty sometimes.  Some of the names used for BKP's realy got me thinking - its a bit like a crossword that you just can't finish.  After trawling through the board.  Here's what I have found.  Anyone want to chip in and complete the list?  Maybe Tim will spill the beans and explain the insperation for the tone of each pick up?

Humbuckers
Stormy Monday   - Allman brothers
Mule             - Warren Hayes (Government Mule)
Riff Raff          - ACDC – Angus Young
VHII             - Van Wotsit
Black Dog       - Page (Led Zepp – Les Paul tone, so which album - Houses of the Holy?)
Emerald           - ? Garry Moore – comes form Ireland? OR Peter Green?
Abraxas           - Carlos Santana
Holydriver        - ?
Cold Sweat       - ?
Crawler            - Geoff, who’s big in Graves end
Miricle Man        - ?
Nail Bomb       - ?
Warpig            - Black Sabbath

Tele
Country Boy       - ?
Yarbird             - Jeff Beck & Jimmy Page both used tele’s in the Yarbirds and I think Clapton did as well? I seem to seeing all three on stage together in an Old 60's Movie - "Luck Man" IIRC - Yep I'm and old fart.
Brown Sugar      - The one and only Keith Richards, but also Tims recommendation for Led Zep I Page tone.
Boss         - Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen
Piledriver          - think it is a take on the origional Broadcaster Pickup

Strats
Apache            - Big Bad Hank in his Shadow’s day’s
The Sultans        - Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits)
Mothers Milk        - Chilli Peppers?
Irish tours          - Rory Gallagher / SRV
Slow hand        - Clapton (Blackie sound?)
The Trilogy suit     - Ingwie Malmstrom
The Sinner         - ?

Regards

Kevin
