Replacement Neck?

I've just had a custom body built for a wolfgang neck, but this has left me with a loaded Peavey Wolfgang Body.  Rather than flog it on ebay (as ive already sold the pickups and wouldnt get much for it) i thought I might just by a replacement neck for it, paint it a garish colour and get myself a set of Nailbombs.

Unfortunately wolfgang necks are not easy to find, and i dont want to spend that much on it.  What I want to know is would any neck do if the neck pocket dimensions are the same?

Its a 22 fret neck.  I tried my 21fret telecaster neck in there and it fits perfectly.  So Can i go on ebay and get any neck that has the same scale length and neck pocket dimensions?

Does it matter if its a 24 fret neck as long as the scale length (25.5 ) is the same?

Any advice would be helpful, cheers

I've never played a Wolfgang, but looking at pictures I think you might have problems.

The end of the Peavey neck (where it meets the body in the pocket) looks like it's between the 23rd and 24th frets (if it had 23rd and 24th frets).  The end of a Fender neck is just under the 22nd fret.  

So... if you put a typical Fender-style replacement neck on the Peavey, you'd effectively be shortening the total scale length by maybe half an inch.  Then there probably wouldn't be enough "travel" on the bridge saddles to get the intonation right.

I could be wrong though...  :?

Some necks can be modified to work but would take some investigation

Unless is uses an overhang like older (pre all access neck joint) Ibanez and current Warmoth necks, but the problem then is that if you have a neck pickup you'll probably have to take it out as it'll get in the way.

Ive seen a kramer neck for sale with 22frets so I might take a punt on that and see.

Make your own.  You could get it spot on then.  It's easier than it looks providing that you don't have an problem with sanding.  Really you should use a spokeshave, but I've got by with a surform, rasps and sandpaper.  Knowing someone with a bandsaw helps too.

I still think you need a neck built specifically for a Wolfgang - as I said above, even though the scale length is the same as a Fender-type, it looks to me that the neck joint is in a different place.

Try measuring your Wolfgang and Tele necks from the nut to the end of the neck heel (not including the overhang at the end of the Wolfgang fretboard).  If they're the same, you'll be fine with any Fender/Kramer/Warmoth/Allparts/WD etc replacement neck.  But I think you might find the Wolfgang neck is longer.

It is longer, but thats because the wolfie has 22 frets and the tele has 21, Its longer by exactly 1 fret! so i'm hoping that the 22 fret kramer will be bang on.

Very late reply - but the Peaveys are pretty unique . However, te Peavey Generation necks will fit the Wolfgang and vice versa ( You'll need to pack/red rill holes though)
