Mississippi for Tele Custom
« on: July 22, 2013, 07:34:51 PM »
My Tele Custom with two humbuckers is tuned a tone lower, and it sounds too dark that way.  I'd like to have it sound as bright as my LP 2008 which has Mules.

I'm thinking of a Mississipi, the only thing that makes me doubt is the hum.  I often use a pretty higain fuzz (Skreddy Lunar Module).  Is that going to be Humsville, and if so, what is the alternative?

Well ofc you will get a bit more hum from a P90 than from a HB. When I got my P90s I was afraid of that too, but turns out there is way less than I would have expected. Sure is there, but I have not found it overpowering or anything. If you are not perticulary sensitive to hum I would not put that down as a concern. My BKP90s hum less than my BKP single coils as well ;)

Also there in my mind is no better pickup type for fuzz than P90s. They work so well together it is a amazing. They retain way more clarity under bonecrushing amounts of fuzz than any HB I have ever tried.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

They will hum a bit more then humbuckers, but nothing extraordinary. I think the MQ's will work fine in your tele. As Kiichi says, they will keep things tight with loads of gain.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
