Change of plans...
« on: September 21, 2013, 12:14:48 AM »
A long while ago I came to the forum to see which pickups would sound best in a PRS Torero.  Unfortunately, it turns out that someone else got to it before I was about to purchase it. However, I did find a different guitar that became total eye candy to me.  I found an Ibanez RG920MQM in Desert Red. It is part of their Premium series which I'm really impressed with. I enjoyed playing this one more than the PRS, shockingly. Now, while the stock pickups aren't terrible, I felt as if something is missing from its tone.  I listened to sound clips of the Black Hawks and love what I hear, but I'm curious to see which magnet would be better for it (in the bridge position). I would assume the Alnico 5 would be better, but I want to double check.

It's a little hard to tell in this video.  I know maple is a bright tone wood but I don't know about Basswood. Would the Basswood/Maple board/Maple neck combination make the guitar overall fairly bright?

brightish id say. from what i know basswood is sort of in the middle usually on a brightness scale but maple would brighten it up a bit.
