Slide setup on a Danelectro U2. NEW LONGER VIDEO ADDED
« on: March 01, 2006, 08:07:39 PM »
Hi,

This is my Danelectro U2 RI prepared to play slide.

I bought it in Bradford about 8 years ago and little by little I've been adding things to it. The most significant features is that P90 ( not BKP sadly ) sandwiched in between the two Kent Armstrong lipsticks.

It sports a tele bridge which looks like a  sawed-off shotgun, so that you can load the strings form the rear like a Tele. The tone improved inmmensely.

Strings are Newtone 0.13 - 0.53. and it's sounding through a humble Roland microcube /  Twin Reverb mode.

This a somewaht short video but it shows the tone none the less.

I was going to buy a U2 on ebay a while back, a little disappointed that I didn't follow through with it, to be honest. I really like the vibe of Danelectro's. Nice video by the way!
The large print giveth, and the small print taketh away...

The concentric controls are standard. But the tele knob is a blender. You can hace stock Dano sounds, the straight P90 on its own or blend both signals.
The tone is rather authentic eh??

I always loved the slide guitar tones of people like Chris Rea or George Harrison. With this guitar I'm pretty near to their tone although the gear itself is rather different... ie a Danelectro with a P90 is similar in tone to a hefty strat!!

So are you a Bradford Lad?  The reason I ask is that I am, and depending how old you are, I might know you.  I used to manage JSG in Bingley in the 70's (giving my age away there!).

Get a BK P-90 for it, you will not look back, though having said that the old Silvertone lipstick tubes are really nice sounding, I have one in the neck of a Tele and I'm just getting a 2 pickup one from a friend here (also getting the matching bass!).
So many pickups, so little time

I love slide playing- great clip. Is that a ceramic slide- I couldn't see it properly.

It's Jim Dunlop's Mudslide. I belive it's ceramic, yes.
It's the nicest all round slide I've tried.
