Pickups...nailbomb or warpig

hey...i play 'metal' and i use that term loosely. basically metallica, trivium, chimaira,bullet for my valentine and killswitch engage.
i was wondering which of the two pickups mentioned would be 'better' for playing stuff from those bands.
also which has better string definition?

Well it really depends on what sort of sound you're looking for. As far as I can tell they are both awesome for metal, just in slightly different respects.

The nailbomb has quite an organic sound, better cleans than the warpig. However, the warpig really is the shizzle for extreme metal. Really bassy and fat. I would email Tim and ask for his advice, he knows what he's talking about. For chimera maybe the warpig would sound best.

Personally I went for a nailbomb for playing stuff like opeth, slayer, etc. but still waiting for it to be delivered

thanks, my main issue with the standard pickups in my ibanez is that the sound is thin. send me some clips when you get the nb :)

i think that ALL the bands you listed use active EMGs. For a comparable output, and huge power, modelled on an EMG, but in a passive format (for better dynamics and tone), go for the Miracle Man. (named after the song played by Zakk Wylde- who uses EMGs)

all of the bands i listed use mesa boogies and marshalls. i not a huge fan of the emg ton itself, but i like what those bands make of it. i rather have something with a bit warmer tone. i do have enough money for 2 pickups at the moment so actives are not and option. thanks though

I've just fitted a set of pigs to my epi V and I was totally blown away by them - they are just unbeatable for heavy music (although I haven't actaully use a NB yet). I have a set of MMs in my LP which sound great too but for heavy stuff I'd go with the Warpigs  :twisted:

pretty much all of those bands you mentioned use ceramic emg's (the 81), so i'd go with the miracle man.

I would go with the above advice and go with the Miracle Man, its great for palm muting and any fast riffing.
The Cold sweat is worth noting too, It is also ceramic based and has a bit more warmth to it, not so much top end fizz.

hey i emailed tim and he suggested a mm as well. i saw a guy on ultimate guitar (dave mc probably knows who it is) and he ws talking about being able to choose what goes into a pickups for a bit extra price (like different magnets).
so what do you reckon a ceramic magneted nailbomb would be like?

I have no idea about a ceramic nailbomb, but i know a ceramic warpig gets ordered every so often... tighter, etc., less organic sounding. I assume it'd do a similar thing with the nailbomb, if it's available.

I think that the Miracle man would be just fine, the Nailbomb has quite a different tone and I think that using a ceramic mag in one may give it too much bass.
