Feedback / foam under pickups
« on: November 15, 2013, 03:08:25 AM »
I get a lot of feedback from two of my guitars - the Warpig Explorer and the Stockholm SG Junior - if I get within one metre of my amp. It was suggested to me today to try cutting a piece of that foam from the bottom of the BKP boxes and place it under each pickup to reduce vibrations and hence feedback.

Has anyone done this?  Did it work?

I have done this with P90 equipped guitars but with the main focus on bringing the pickups closer to the strings. I did not notice a difference in feedback sensitivity but that was not a problem anyway.

I am afraid I am not of much help here.

Cheers Stephan

It's one of those things that I guess 'can't hurt' ... I popped a couple of pieces of foam under each of the two Warpigs in my Explorer tonight given that the strings are currently off anyway and I had a lot problems with that guitar feeding back.  I guess I'll find out when it's ready to test.

The chrome tuners did not arrive before the weekend so I will wait until they come, hopefully Monday.

I have a jam with potential new bandmates tomorrow and it would have been good to have had the Explorer there as an option to explore in terms of sound but I am pretty sure these guys are currently playing in standard tuning anyway.  I'll just take my two SGs, my pedalboard and my Peavey amp, and plug that in to a 4x12 the drummer has at his house.  It has T75s whereas mine has V30s but I'm sure we will manage and it beats lugging that heavy Orange cab to practices.
