Suhr Modern M7 Pick up replacement
« on: December 05, 2013, 10:55:28 PM »
Hello I am looking to replace my pickups in my Suhr M7 Modern
Specs
Body - Basswood
Top - Maple
Neck - Maple
Fretboard - Rosewood

Right now I have the SSH+ in the bride and SSV in the neck. Excellent pickups but I'm looking for something a bit more aggressive. I had a Wilde L500XL In there for a while which sounded great for heavy rhythms but the leads were a bit piercing and bright. I thinking about a war pig or a MM, wondering what you guys think.
Also what would be the best BK neck pup for full jazz tones with a nice strat style coil tap.
Thanks!

Kiichi

Not sure on the bridge, but the best jazz tones, for my money, come from the Manhattan. Such a sweet natural sound, it really seeks an equal.

From the HBs the SM should get you the best jazz tones I suspect, if you are into the classic sound, otherwise the WP can deliver fat and full jazz sounds which are awesome too.
BKPs in use: 10th set / RY set / Holy Diver b, Emerald n / Crawler bridge, Slowhand mid MQ neck/ Manhattan n
On the sidelines: Stockholm b / Suppermassive n, Mule n, AM set, IT mid

For the bridge I would have said Alnico Nailbomb. It certainly will have enough aggression but should not sound thin. I actually have the Wilde L-500XL in one of my guitars and have been thinking of putting my A-Bomb in there just to try.

Are you seeking the jazz tone neck pickup for this guitar? Not sure what to recommend specifically for jazz but the VHII would make a very good match to the Alnico Nailbomb, and it splits well, too.

Cheers Stephan

I support the idea of an alnico Nailbomb. For the neck I would have a look at a Mule, but I don't know about the balance between those two. I can get very nice jazztones from the Mule-neck. I don't have experience with the splitted sound.
Mules, VHII, Crawler, MM's, IT's, BG50's.
