8 string BKP recommendation?
« on: February 13, 2014, 07:17:23 AM »
Just picked up a new Ibanez RG2228m & am looking for a pickup suggestion.  Today I swapped out the terrible EMG's it comes with for a set of Dimarzio DActivators.  They're not bad, but I would describe their low end as…… a little slow.  Looking for something a bit tighter / faster in the bass department.  For those that aren't familiar with this particular guitar, It has a basswood body, maple neck w/ wenge strips & maple fretboard, fixed bridge that is post mounted, not string through.  Due to the maple fretboard, the guitar has a noticeable amount of natural attack compared to the same guitar with a rosewood board.  The sound I'm going for is basically exactly what Modern Day Babylon is doing, though I know they use Painkillers in the bridge & Cold Sweats in the neck, they also play Skervesen guitars with different woods / construction than my RG.  From the research I've done, it seems like a set of Cold Sweats might be a good call, but I'd like to get some opinions first!

Well, I just picked up a Miracle Man 8 bridge pickup at a great price on ebay, so now the question is what neck pickup to pair with it.  I'm thinking Cold Sweat?

+1 on the MM CS combo. I have the Cold Sweat neck in my BC Rich 7 string and it sounds awesome! I'm sure it'll sound great in an 8 string too.
