PG Blues Neck Pickup sounds weak and thin
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:34:45 PM »
Hi there,

Believe it or not I've had a set of PG Blues installed on my LP for several years and the neck pickup has always sounded weak like a bad single coil. I had actually assumed that this was the nature of how this set is wired but recently I was watching a video on you tube of Peter Greens actual LP and the neck pickup is warm and fat- the guitar is only out of phase in the middle position! I didn't even realize. Tim confirmed this by email.

I had problems with the particular tech who did this for me but I looked at the schematic and the wiring and I'm not sure how he could have possibly got it wrong- looks fairly easy.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what this might be? I'll be taking it to a tech but would like to maybe know in advance what might be wrong with it. I guess it could be a faulty pickup but maybe it's something else?

Many thanks

Is the pickup single or four conductor ?

If it's four conductor make sure of the following first

1 red connected to input of volume pot
2 green and white are actually soldered together, not just twisted - as this may have broken
3 black and the braided wire are connected to the back of the pot

Just in case the tech has assumed either Seymour Duncan or Dimarzio colour codes instead of the BKP codes

If single conductor then this won't apply
