Can you help me choosing PU for an Ibanez RG?
« on: February 26, 2014, 09:38:01 PM »
Hello.

As stated in the post title, I need some help to choose a pickup for an Ibanez RG570, which is made of basswood for body, maple for neck and rosewood for fretboard.
The PUs I can buy are a Ceramic Nailbomb and a Miracle Man (because my local dealer has a very good offer for these two models).

Some time ago, I installed a set of MM in the same guitar and while the sound and note definition was good, I missed some treble frequencies or maybe some extra gain, so I used to increase my amp gain about 1.5-2 points.... How about the C-Bomb for the basswood?. I read a lot that Cold Sweat and Miracle Man are the best choice for this wood, but also some others saying that C-Bomb can handle it well.

If you need more references, I play tuned to C with very thick string gauge (.14-.68) and play some kind of Dark Tranquillity & Opeth stuff.

Thank you in advance!!

The C-Bomb will do fine too in basswood. It's just a little less scooped than the MM. But downtuned with such big strings you might be better off with Painkillers or Cold Sweats.

BKP's keep their clarity with a lot of gain. They seem to 'eat' a little gain because they don't get muddy. It's something your ears have to get used to.

I have a MM in my RG 8 string & really dig it.  Since the Ibanez basswood / bolt on / tremolo bridge setup gives a fairly even response with a slight high end emphasis, the MM does a good job evening everything else out.  That being said, I have no experience with the C-Bomb.

Has the C-Bomb more output than MM?.
I know that coldsweat should be better but I can't go anything different than these two models...

The C-Bomb has a different voicing. Several players stated it's louder than the MM. I don't own them, so I can't comment on that. For your guitar/strings the Cold Sweat is a good choice too. It's more scooped than the C-Bomb.
