I bought this mic this week as I'm recording a demo for a local band with my home recording equipment. I found an old acoustic guitar of my uncles, it's only got 5 strings and the wound G is unwinding

This is the first ever recording I've done with it. The mic sounds really really nice. Much nicer than using an SM58 lol. Since there's no BKP's in the clip I've hosted it on my soundclick page. I will be using this mic for clips with BKP's in later on though, so keep a lookout for those.

The detail is superb, and it sounds really flattering to vocals. It has plenty of presence and high end, this mic sounds just as good as mics costing a lot more. Acoustic guitars sound very atmospheric and it's easy to get a good sound with it. If you're doing home recording, you've really got to get one of these after you get an SM57.

I know nothing about mic'ing acoustics, but I've found with this mic placement doesn't matter much - it still gets a great sound.

That sounds AMAZING. The guitar itself sounds really nice. I'm guessing these condenser mics are bloody expensive?

http://www.dv247.com/invt/2859 - that's the site I got it from. Postage is a bit steep (£10 via UPS) but is next day and packaged to withstand an atomic blast. I guess better shipping is more appropriate with a more delicate condenser mic anyway.

That's about the same as I paid for my SM57. Id've expected it to cost about 4 times as much if Id've heard it and not seen a price tag.

I'll record some clips of the Bareknuckles through the plexi with it soon, I'm just having some problems with the plexi (last rewire has left a bit too much noise so I need to stamp that out) so I won't be able to get them done today. I've nearly finished the Flanger build, so some clean VHII clips through the Flanger > Plexi > B1 would be pretty cool I think.

It's funny how the guitar sounds nice Tom, as this is probably the worst sounding acoustic ever, lol. The strings are dead and falling apart, and for all I know it could be made of plywood. Just shows how good the mic is I guess.

Try using the B1 on one speaker and the SM57 on another, pretty much dead center about 1 inch from the grill, U87s work really well like this. You should find the B1 fills in the gaps from the SM57's response, so you get the bass and treble from the B1 with the nice mid punch from the SM57.

There are some great condenser mic deals, the SE mics are great too, but this looks like a real bargain!

Would just one B1 be good to record overdriven guitars with? My amps only a 1x12 if it matters.

Also, thanks for the link, seems a good price for the great sound!

Thanks for the tip - I'll definately try that as I've been feeling the SM57 does lack quite a bit in high end.

Should be - I'll get some clips of an overdriven guitar once I've fixed the plexi.

That's the 1st time I've ever heard anyone say that an SM57 lacks high end!

Alot of people I know hate them because they have too much high end :)

I'd never use an SM57 on it's on on a guitar cab, but mixed in with other mikes they can work wonders :)

Hmmm - the 57 does bugger all above 13k plus the diaphragm is heavy and doesn't respond as fast all adding to a naturally duller sound then any condenser......but 57s can sound harsh in the upper mids, but together with a condenser they sound great.

That's what I'm thinking - just a bit dull. Since I only have been using that mic, I thought it was the preamp's fault, but now I reckon that it's partly the SM57, and the preamp probably exaggerates it.

a decent condensor is a thing of beauty - I've got a matched pair of Groove Tube GT-55s and they are the dogs bollocks.

try the SE1A (studio electronics=SE)its a nicly priced condenser for about €100 and its hand made

or the one mentioned is also good as you can hear! bout €100
if any one has questions i have a mic data cd with frequency response and all the other info needed on nealy any mic i can think of, id be happy to copy and paste but id say the cd is too big to put up on the web sorry!
