Nailbomb, Aftermath or Juggernaut for 8-String?
« on: August 19, 2014, 04:13:18 PM »
I've narrowed it down to these three for my 8 string, however which one is the least bass heavy or tightest on the low end as this will impact the low string - that's the one I want to go for really. Anything too bassy I'm assuming won't sound too clear??

Juggernaut:  Huge phat low mids and a present but tight and rolled off low end.  A more tapered and smooth high end.  It sounds phat and huge but not boomy.  Has lots of lows but not sub lows, if that makes sense.

Nailbomb:  Super tight and rolled off in the lows.  The lows are deep but really clear and tapered with emphasis more in the high mids instead of the low mids.  The highs and pick attack are really gritty and grimey.  Not much low end compared to the Juggs.

Aftermath I can't comment on but I'd imagine it's brighter and less phat than the Juggernaut.

Drier and with the EQ pushed higher. So it is harsher, little less fat (though still crushing) and with more high end agression. Also center mid heavy.

So basically, it's an amazing extreme metal pickup!!!   I'd probably like that, actually, but I really appreciate the versatility of the Juggerset.  They work well with my needs and playing styles, even if that is not remotely djent sounding.

To be honest don't really like the sound of the Aftermaths - probably gonna head down the Jugg route I reckon. What's gonna be better for Deftones in your opinions, Jugg or Nailbomb or neither? Thanks again for the input  :cheesy:

i know i just said this in your other topic but i think the juggernauts can do no wrong when it comes to modern stuff. it can cover a lot of ground. i feel like the nailbomb is a bit less varied in what it can do.

I've pulled the trigger on some Juggernauts, have to wait for them to arrive from the shop and then they'll stick them in, so looking at a couple of weeks before I can test drive them

Thanks for all the great advice!!
