removing 2-pt tremolo anchor points?
« on: August 26, 2014, 01:14:05 AM »
hey guys quick question. i picked up a hipshot 2-pt trem system that i'm going to use on a strat that still has the original anchor points deep in the guitar and those 2 points dont fit the hipshot screw-in adjustable anchors. does that make sense? anyway. is there an easy way to get those out so i can put in the anchors that came with the hipshot bridge or will i be better off buying ones that WILL fit the anchors already there? either one should work find with this hipshot bridge

The hipshot really only works really well with the matt black fittings they supply , so take the time and effort to get the old ones out and replace with the Hipshot ones

The hipshot is incredible when mounted on the right mounts

The old bushings may just pull out - or you may need to heat them a bit to loosen any glue if they glued them in. (jam a soldering iron into the threaded part for a minute)

I usually insert a bolt with the same thread  and use a bushing puller - or even grab the end of the bolt and gently pull with some pliers

You'll need to find a bolt with the same thread - screw bolt on a little way leaving the large head of bolt above surface of guitar where it can be grabbed.

Think about what this device does - you are trying to do the same thing
In the past I used to improvise with a bolt (as per above) - a large washer whose hole is just right size for the bolt and a piece of wood with a hole drilled through it
the wood goes against the guitar body with the hole over the bushing - you may want to line it with cork to protect the finish
The washer goes over the hole
the bolt goes through the washer hole and into the bushing
tighten the screw and it will all tighten together
keep tightening and it will start to force the bushing out of the body

this is another approach , although I would tread carefully with this approach on a strat

Just screw in a long bot of the same thread. The bushings will push themselves out.

Alternatively put a small object (BB etc...) into the old bushing, screw in the trem post and when it hits the bb it will push itself out. No special tools needed.

Been doing it this way for years.
