First Rehearsal
« on: April 05, 2006, 10:58:07 AM »
Tonight is the first rehearsal for my new band: Rocket 69  :)

Should be cool as we have all played together under different guises in the past (I've known the drummer and bass player for about 20 years), and therefore know we all get along.

We're going for a classic Big Dumb Rock vibe as we're all bored to death with all the miserable emoMetal around at the moment.

We shall be mainly doing originals, with the odd cover to pad out the set a bit to start with.

The covers we're going to start with are:

A - Wisdom
Demoltion23. - Hammersmith Palais
Foo Fighters - The Sign
The Almighty - Addiction
The Lee Harvey Oswald Band - Rocket 69 (this is where we got the name from, so could be a nice anthem to drive the name home at the end of gigs ;))

I'm personally not too sure about the A and Foo Fighters songs, but that's what you get when playing in a democracy.  ;)

May be adding some others later, with songs by Sea Hags, D-A-D and Backyard Babies earmarked.  :)

Main point of this post though is that I've held off posting much about my new Nailbombs that Feline Jonathan fitted to my SG for me (as well as doing a fantastic refret job) until I got the chance to give them a decent workout at rehearsal/gig levels .  So tomorrow I shall post my detailed thoughts on these pickups.

However, my initial impressions at bedroom levels have been: :D

Wish me luck.  :)

well done and good luck. I'm quite interested in what nail bombs would be like in a pub rock kind of song situation.

I just really jealous of anyone who actually plays in a band that gigs or can actually talk of gigging.

I've tried to start about 7 bands and for multiple reasons or more they all just fail or peater out.

do date the only pearson to ever see me play an entire song  is my wife.
Mule, Irish Tour and Slowhands

Demolition23 was a side-project by Mike Monroe (of Hanoi Rocks fame, and solo stuff of course)

A are kinda punky metal I suppose

The Lee Harvey Oswald Band was a side project from Rick Sims of the Didjits.

That must really suck.  It is difficult sometimes finding people to play with.  Tried finding any Jam Nights in your area?

Getting a band going is hard work. Over the years I have found that people come and go naturally throughout the life of the band but getting that nucleus is the trick- but that aint easy and tends to be when you get on a bit. My earliest bands were very fluid- it is a pity we can't send a team out to help our forum bro in Oz!
Send three and fourpence we're going to a dance
BKP's: Apache, Country Boy, Slowhands.

Rehearsal went great.  Which is unusual for a first bash.

Pretty much nailed one song, had a brief flirtation with another that's sounding pretty good already AND got some writing done.

And I'm in love with my tone for the first time.  :)
